Hey all you Travel Gurus! I hope you are enjoying life to the fullest and making those plans to travel. We have just enjoyed a trip to Cancun, our annual excursion, in January, and are now enjoying the warmer weather and sun, away from the cold weather of PA, of Ft Lauderdale.
So, first, the trip to Cancun. Many years ago, we purchased a week at the Westin Lagunamar as Vacation owners and we try to use our unit or give it to our kids or offer it for only the maintenance fees for the year to friends and family. We have lots of places to go and we can't always make room for it all since we are both still working and only have so much time to be vacationing. So many places to go and so little time right now!
For our Cancun trip, Rich signed onto an offer made by Southwest that if you elected to sign up for their credit card and spent $2,000 in the first few months using the credit card, you would be eligible for a free companion pass. That meant for several months, we could travel anywhere and I would travel for free. We used it already 3 times, which saved us over $1,000 at least. We travelled to Savannah in November, Cancun in January and Ft Lauderdale in February. Amazing places, warm with tropical breezes and parks and beaches that cannot be found anywhere else! Great trips!
The reason we made the decision to travel to Ft Lauderdale this month is because the companion pass is expiring this month, so we had to use it as much as we could before it expired. Spending $2,000 in 2 months is not a big deal. We charged every expense to the credit card. Of course, these are normal expenses that we always pay off when the bill arrives so as to not incur ANY interest. That's what we do no matter what credit card offer we elect. We sign up for the best deals being offered, such as 50,000 or more points when you spend so much on the card. Then, we cancel the card once the deal has expired and look for the next great deal, continually taking advantage of great travel deals. It's so worth it if you love to travel and can pay off your bills on time.
